Laurana met Tanis when he was ward of her family. She gradually fell in love with him. During this time, she and the half-elf were "pledged", though she took this more seriously than he did. She had a ring specially made for him made of gold with aspen leaves entwined around it. When she told her feelings of Tanis to her brother, Gilthanas, he became enraged and stormed out to find Tanis. As much as Gilthanas respected Tanis, he didn't feel that a half-elf was suitable for his elven sister of royal blood.
Laurana is the daughter of Solostarian, Speaker of the Suns. Her brothers are Gilthanas and Porthios. Laurana has been so spoiled all her life that she thought the world revolved around her for a long time. Only during the War of the Lance, when she left her homeland secretly to follow Tanis did she realize that this was not the case and that she was nothing more than a grain of sand on a beach. Her heart, I must say, is in the right place. She was used to getting her own way, but she learned to be diplomatic when she needed to.
After she thought Tanis died in Tarsis, Laurana shed much of her immaturity, showing the strength she and her family possesed. The battle at the High Clerist's Tower would probably have been lost if she had not grown up and taken the chances she had with the Dragon Orb and her courage in leading the Knights of Solamnia.
After the War of the Lance, Laurana had changed from the love-sick young girl into a strong and heroic elf woman. After finding Tanis alive she found him still in love with Kitiara and let him be. Soon after he realized Kitiara was not the one he truly wanted he then went back to Lauarana and they we wed. She later became a diplomat for the Knights of Solamnia.
